What does a chartered surveyor do?
A chartered surveyor inspects a property and reports on its condition or value. For home buyers that usually means a RICS Home Survey — an independent assessment of defects, repairs and maintenance issues carried out before you commit to a purchase.
Which survey do I need — Level 2 or Level 3?
A RICS Level 2 Home Survey suits conventional properties in reasonable condition and covers visible defects with condition ratings. A Level 3 Building Survey (previously called a full structural survey) is more thorough and suits older, extended, altered or unusual properties.
